Custom WooCommerce website and CMS migration for a food manufacturing equipment supplier.

AES Food Equipment supplies and installs food processing and hygiene equipment, with 40 years behind it and a catalogue that runs from single tools to complete factory fit-outs.
The business had expanded well beyond its original abattoir supplies market into food hygiene and manufacturing more broadly. The website had not followed, and in a competitive market that was costing visibility.

Challenge.
AES sells two completely different ways, and both had to live on one website without confusing anyone.
- Not everything can be bought online. Part of the catalogue suits a straightforward add to basket and checkout. The rest, larger equipment and full installations, needs a conversation and a quote. Forcing both through the same funnel breaks one or the other.
- UK checkout, international demand. Online ordering worked for UK customers, but EU shipping complexity made checkout impractical for international buyers. Those enquiries were still worth having, and turning them away was not an option.
- A business that had outgrown its own site. The move into wider food manufacturing was not reflected in the website or in search, so buyers looking for exactly what AES supplies were finding somebody else.

Solution.
One journey, two outcomes. We built a WooCommerce site with quote functionality running alongside the basket. Customers add products to a basket or to a quote list through an identical journey, so nobody has to work out which type of buyer they are before they can start.
One click from basket to quote. Where UK-only restrictions block checkout, the customer moves their entire basket to a quote list in a single click. International opportunities get captured and handled properly instead of hitting a dead end at the payment step.
Migration treated as an SEO project. The move to the new platform was mapped and executed to protect and build search equity rather than simply carrying content across.
CLIENT FEEDBACK
Kyle Savage
Managing Director, AES Food Equipment
"We had the pleasure of working with Appeal to build a new website last year, and they exceeded our expectations in every way. The project was completed within budget, and they delivered a modern, sophisticated website that perfectly met our needs. We highly recommend them for their expertise and attention to detail."
Result.
Unbranded search impressions rose significantly post-launch. That is the measure that matters for AES, because unbranded searches are buyers who did not know the company existed and now do.
Growth has held month on month since launch, with rankings continuing to climb on the terms that bring in equipment buyers. The site sells to the customers who want to buy online and captures the ones who need a conversation, without either group having to work out which door to use.
